Advanced commissioning steps
When the system is operating and providing measurements, the Rosemount System Controller is used
for running the Rosemount 3DVision Server application that synchronizes and merges the devices and
delivers data to the Rosemount 3DVision Clients. It is also recommended to use the Rosemount System
Controller computer for configuration and adjustments, and for executing the Rosemount 3DVision
installed in it.
The recommended method of operation and steps to be taken during the installation of multiple
Rosemount 5708 in a system are detailed below in chronological order:
Step 1. Rosemount 5708 installation
Make sure all required documentation is available: Application Evaluation Form (AEF) and Vessel
Drawings.
Compare Locator suggestion or mounting location as suggested by Emerson
™
with the actual
Rosemount 5708 mounting positions.
Perform manual measurements of the vessel dimensions, and compare results with the
drawings.
Check 24 Vdc input to all devices.
Check RS-485 link between devices and the Rosemount System Controller. Make sure the
resistance between D+ and D- is 60 ±5% Ohm.
Check 4-20 mA connection to the local PLC. Perform current simulation from the device
connected to the PLC.
Power up all devices and check polling addresses.
Set polling addresses, make sure each device has a different polling address and one of the
devices is set with polling address of 00. See
Section 6: Configuration - Rosemount 5708V and
for more information.
Write down the polling addresses on the vessel drawings for all devices.
Verify all devices for proper functioning after power up. This can be verified by connecting each
Rosemount 5708 directly to a computer.
Verify sound signal transmission from all devices.
Get material status (level/distance/volume) according to the process manager .
Complete all required information from the process manager in order to complete the
Rosemount 5708 configuration.
