Internal Pre-Amp:
A pre-amp external to the built-in spectrum
analyzer but internal to the ERX+ l EHX+ is OFF by default.
Gain goes from 40 dB at 150 kHz to 15 dB at 8 GHz. Displayed
amplitude levels are automatically corrected for the gain value.
Level 1 is in fact the Level 2 gain attenuated by the 20 dB in
the spectrum analyzer attenuator. Do not turn ON the Internal
Pre-Amp to Level 2 if the displayed signal level exceeds the
threshold below with Pre-Amp OFF. Use the highest frequency in the span being measured. Note that
units are in dBm, not dBuV.
150 kHz – 50 MHz
50 MHz – 1 GHz
1 GHz – 8 GHz
-56 dBm
-48 dBm
-39 dBm
In fact when you turn ON the Internal Pre-Amp you will see the following message pop up; click OK if you
wish to proceed.
Noise Reduction:
It is set to Level 1 by default. Noise Reduction is a signal processing algorithm that
looks at all the signals, and compare them with the noise floor and the reference level of the analyzer for
each frequency to decide whether it is a true signal and worth keeping. Increasing from Level 1 to 2 and
then 3 results in a flat noise floor with only a few peaks remaining.
Level 2 is not working properly in this release. Do not use.
When set to OFF, the user sees the raw data as captured by the spectrum analyzer in 40 MHz IBW
blocks, following the reference levels of the analyzer as it goes up and down across the frequency span.
Noise Threshold:
Once at Noise Reduction Level 3, you can further decimate the data points by increasing
the noise threshold from 0 to 1, then 1 to 2 etc.
External RF Bypass:
When ON, the RF signal from the scanner bypasses the built-in pre-amp and
attenuator section and goes to the RF OUT port to which you can connect external devices such as
amplifier, attenuator, passband filter etc. You then connect the output of such external device into the RF
IN port of the built-in spectrum analyzer as long as the power into the RF In port does not exceed
-10 dBm
.
To correct the displayed amplitude levels for the gain or attenuation value, select the value from the drop
down menu or manually entering the value. When the External RF Bypass is ON, the Internal Pre-amp
is automatically turned OFF
Description Tab
You can name the node and add a description. Click OK.
To run the scan close the settings and run once
. Immediately upon
running the scan you see a message describing where you need to position
the handheld probe.
