Update Firmware
Midé is constantly looking to update and improve its Slam Stick product line with new products
and features for its existing products. These can lead to updated firmware which may become
available to you that exposes an improved functionality or feature. Occasionally bugs are also
found in the firmware which may require the user to update the firmware. To make improved
firmware readily accessible to users, the Slam Stick Lab has the functionality to update your unit’s
firmware.
In order to update the firmware the driver must be installed to directly interface with the Slam
Stick’s CPU. Midé will provide a private link to a site if/when a firmware update is available to
you. Once the driver has been downloaded you can check that it’s working properly by plugging
in your Slam Stick. It will show up like a USB as it always does. Now put the device in “bootloader”
mode by holding down the button. The computer should start working to download/update the
driver. It may take as much as one minute but the LED will then turn red and a Silicon Labs CDC
Serial Port should show up in your control panel. Unplug the Slam Stick once this occurs.
Once the driver has been properly installed, run a version of Slam Stick Lab of at least 1.4.2 or
later. Under the top level Device menu (the “Show Advanced features” needs to be turned on
under preferences) there will be an option to update firmware. It will ask you to select a device,
then the firmware package to install (the .fw file). Then it will ask you to put it in bootloader
mode. This is done by holding down the button, the LED will turn red once it’s in bootloader (it
will be off as the computer is getting the driver ready).
NOTE:
It’s important to do the driver check beforehand because the Lab gets
“impatient” if it takes a little while to go into bootloader mode. You may need to run the
sequence again if this happens. Unplugging the device from power should make it reset
itself (will turn the LED a few different colors then off); but this may also take upwards of
a minute.
Once it gets into bootloader mode it will quickly update and “release” the recorder and the LED
will turn yellow/green again. Then it’s good to go!
