Operation
Operational Environment
A wide range of applications can use a Slam Stick to monitor and record physical shocks and
vibrations, some of which are listed in Table 9. The list includes common applications of previous
users, but does not contain all of the applicable environments a Slam Stick can be utilized
effectively. For questions on whether a Slam Stick is suitable for a specific application not listed,
contact Midé support representatives
and select “Data Logging” as the area of interest.

All Slam Sticks are rated to operate between -20°C and 60°C. Operation outside of this
temperature range is possible; but the device will mark all recorded data outside this range as
potentially inaccurate. Testing has shown that a Slam Stick is capable of operating for short
durations (<3 hours) at 80°C, but it is not recommended to perform extensive testing at this
temperature. The battery life of a Slam Stick is affected greatly at temperatures below -20°C and
it is not recommended that the device be used in an environment where the temperature is lower
than -20°C. The device can operate in humid environments as well, from 0-95% RH, non-
condensing. Operation in low pressure environments is also achievable down to 25 kPa.
All Slam Sticks are only dust proof and therefore should not be submerged or subjected to direct
fluid spray. Midé recommends applying a layer of removable tape over the USB receptacle if the
environment is especially dusty of if there is a known risk of fluid spray.
CAUTION:
Do not expose the device to water, fuel, oil, wet paint or other liquids and
contaminants that could damage the Slam Stick.
