8.4.12 System time
The system time can be configured on this page.
It is also possible to configure whether and how the system time should be synchronized
via the Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP) or FIS.
If FIS is activated on the
Messages
page, the system uses FIS communication to set
the time. The time then cannot be set in the
System time
tab.
The SNTP client can be enabled and configured in the first section. If the client is enabled,
the specified time servers will be contacted several times a day to determine the current
time and date. Then the system clock will be updated accordingly.
Up to 4 time servers can be specified. These servers will be queried one after the other
until one of them answers.
The server names can be given either as host names (e.g. ntp.company.org) or as IP
addresses (e.g. 192.168.0.23).
Contacting the time servers produces data traffic.
FIS time settings
The FIS time settings can be enabled and configured here. If FIS time is enabled, the device
will request the current time information from the FIS server on each registration. The
device is registered at least once daily.
The device's location and timezone can be selected from the drop-down list.
Set clock manually
The system time can be set manually here. When you click the
Set
button, the system time
will be set to the current time on the connected PC.
Event log messages
The following section describes the messages that the system time manager and the SNTP
client may log to the event log. All messages are prefixed with the text
System Time
Manager:
or
SNTP Client:
Running
The system time manager is now running.
System clock updated via SNTP
The system clock (and if available the real-time clock) has/have just been updated with the
time obtained via SNTP.
