Module Installation Guide
Meridian II Precision TimeBase / Tycho II Precision TimeBase
This is the option module installation guide for Meridian II and Tycho II. Option modules are installed in slots 1 through 5. Referring to
Figure 1 below, the CPU Module is left-most. Next is option slot 1, shown with four BNCs. Slots 2 and 3 are shown with single-slot filler
panels, while slots 4 and 5 have a double-slot filler panel installed. Option modules are not hot-swappable, but most are plug-and-play.
NOTE:
Oscillator Modules must remain in the factory-installed location (slot 1 or, for rubidium, slot 1 and 2). The dual-redundant power supply (if any) is installed in slots
4 and 5. All options except the oscillators and power supplies are field-installable.
STEP 1
Disconnect power and remove unit from equipment rack. Remove upper and lower screws from filler panel as shown in Figure 1. Remove filler panel by pulling it straight back. Most
option modules can be installed in any available slot. The exceptions are Oscillator, Low-Phase-Noise (see note below), and Sine Wave (see note below) Modules.
NOTE:
A Low Phase Noise (LPN) or Sine Wave Module is connected directly to the adjacent module via a short jumper cable. Therefore, it must be installed next to the Oscillator Module or
next to the highest-numbered-slot LPN/Sine Module. Due to the jumper cables, all previously installed LPN Buffer Modules and/or the Oscillator Module must be removed simultaneously in
order to install a new LPN/Sine Module.
STEP 2
Slide option module into slot as shown in Figure 2. Keep module level and in full contact with the bottom of the enclosure while sliding it straight back into the slot. With
module laying flat on bottom of enclosure, firmly press it in to seat the connector.
NOTE:
For an LPN or Sine Module, use supplied cable to connect J3 (CASCADE OUT) in lower-numbered slot to J5 (CASCADE IN) in higher-numbered slot prior to simultane-
ously installing the interconnected modules.
STEP 3
Re-install top and bottom screws as shown in Figure 3.
Handle option modules by the aluminum carrier only!
Any contact with printed circuit board or elec-
tronic components can cause permanent damage due to static discharge. Prior to installation, touch enclosure
while holding module to equalize any static charge build-up.
