MAINTENANCE
All bearings and rotating components have been designed for a 20-year life at an IEC Wind Class
III site, under the IEC 61400-2 Small Wind Safety Standard. This corresponds to a site with an average
wind speed of 7.5 m/s.
Although the Windera S has been designed for a service lifetime of 20 years, Ennera Energy and
Mobility recommends Windera S wind turbine be checked on an annual basis to make the
maintenance procedure.
THE MAINTENANCE OF THE WINDERA S WIND TURBINE MUST BE CARRIED OUT BY
TRAINED PERSONNEL ONLY.
The maximum wind under which the maintenance procedure may be carried out is
V
maint
= 10 m/s.
The first step to carry out the maintenance work is to stop the wind turbine. This can be done by
the controlled stop button of the converter. Once the rotor is stopped, if there is any maintenance or
check inside the converter, the power supply to the converter must be cut.
For the Windera S wind turbine, it is recommended to lowering the small wind turbine on a tilt-
up tower to bring the turbine to a standstill. In this case, the maintenance may be performed on the
ground. If the maintenance is performed on top of the upright tower, it must be prevented the yaw
movement by means of a rope fixing the tail or the blade before the maintenance is performed.
8.1.
Safety procedures
The important safety procedures are two:
The wind turbine must be stopped in order to avoid harmful effects with the blades.
The power supply must be removed from the converter to avoid direct electrical
contact.
The tower for the Windera S is not prepared to be climbed. The maintenance must be done
lowering the wind turbine or accessing the wind turbine at 12.5m height by means of a platform.
8.2.
Routine inspections
Windera S owners should be observant of any abnormal sounds, vibrations or erratic behaviour.
If abnormal behaviour is noticed, the owner should shut down the turbine and contact the dealer or
customer service.
For the blades, an inspection must be done periodically using binoculars or by visual inspection.
If any crack or notch is detected in the blade, this can cause serious damage and
failure of the turbine. In this case, shutdown the turbine and call the customer
service.
For the tower and structure, check if there is structural damage or loosen parts (screws…).
If any structural damage is detected, shutdown the turbine and call the customer
service.
