Epygi IP PBX
System Security
The Epygi system provides many security items that make it a leading choice among security professionals. It is important to
understand some of these items when configuring the system.
•
Firewall. The firewall provides protection via the WAN side port. The firewall should be enabled and at least set to a Low
Security level. If the firewall is set to Medium Security login access from the browser will not be available using HTTP unless
friendly IPs are added in the Management Access list.
•
SIP Intrusion Detection System (IDS). Any SIP device that tries to register to the Epygi but fails to provide the proper
authorization parameters will result in the Epygi blocking the IP address of the device. The IP will be listed in the Firewall
Blocked IP list and it can be deleted. To prevent local IPs from being blocked go to the Firewall SIP IDS settings and add the
local subnet to the exceptions list (e.g. 192.168.1.100 / 24).
•
Passwords. The Epygi will enforce a good strong password when configuring IP devices. This is controlled in the Setup,
System Security Management. The system login password is changed from Maintenance, User Rights.
•
Security Audit. A Security Audit can be done to check for possible security issues with the configuration that might
compromise the system security. This is in Maintenance, Diagnostics, Security Diagnostics.
Maintenance and Testing
•
Configuration. Save the latest configuration in Maintenance, Backup / Restore. The configuration can be saved and restored to
the same or any other QX50 or QX200 that has the same or more recent software.
•
System Logs. Go to Maintenance, System Logs to view the SIP Registrations from the SIP devices. The call originations are
viewed in the SIP User Agent buffer. A log marker can be added in the System Logs Settings by entering a text string and
pressing “Mark all Logs”. Change the log lines to show to a value of 800.

Configuration and Usage Tips
•
Device IP Address. You can find the IP by using the installation CD (2N_Helios_IP_Toolkit.exe) that comes with the unit
and allows you to find the IP by searching for the MAC address. You can also power up the unit and after hearing the second
beep press the large quick dial button five times. The 2N will call out the IP address. If the address is 0.0.0.0, it means that
the device has not obtained an IP address from the DHCP server. Also, prior to accessing the unit the PC will need to be given
a static IP address that is in the subnet range of the unit.
•
Initiating calls and activating relays.
Quick Dial. Pressing the large quick dial button will call to the number defined in
Directory
->
Users->
User Phone -
>Numbers
->
Number 1
->
Phone Number
. Typically this is the extension for the Ring All group.
Extension Call. Pressing “*” followed by any extension will initiate a call to the extension on the Epygi (e.g. “*100”).
Switch Codes. Pressing a defined switch code followed by “*” will activate the switch defined in
Directory
->
Users
-
>
User-> Switch Codes
->
Switch x
(e.g. “22*”).
