OPTIMAL SEED DEPTH PLACEMENT
The optimum seed depth placement varies depending on crop and region. Set the depth on groove
2 to start. Plant, stop and dig to check the depth of the seed. Make further adjustments as needed.
NOTE:
The manufacturer of Equalizer planters cannot guarantee good or fair results with the
guidelines as set out below.
SMALL GRAINS IN THE WESTERN CAPE AND IRRIGATED AREAS
•
Wheat, Barley, Oats, Canola etc.. - 10 to 15mm below the surface.
SOYA BEANS IN THE HIGHVELD AND ELSEWHERE
•
Planting depth - 20 to 40mm below the surface depending on the depth of the available soil
moisture.
COULTER WHEEL SETTINGS –HYDRAULIC
The coulter wheel units are equipped with 3
height adjustments (50 mm increments per setting) A, B, C
and a rest position D.
A = Deep adjustment.
B = Moderate adjustment
C = Level adjustment
D = Rest position
The coulter wheel has the ability to cut, set on its deepest setting, 20 mm above the bottom point of
the shear.
NB:
In conditions where a hard crust prevents the coulter wheel from cutting through (especially on
the wings), it must be changed to a shallower setting so that the shears can work deeper to pull the
tine unit into the ground.
COULTER WHEEL SETTINGS – SPRING LOADED
A
: Increase the downward pressure on the coulter by turning the
setting nut in the direction of the red arrow.
B:
Adjust the depth of the coulter by turning the nut upwards or
downwards as red arrow indicates.
NB:
Any adjustment to B must be followed by the same adjustment on
A to ensure correct tension on spring.
NB:
In conditions where a hard crust prevents the coulter from cutting through (especially on the
wings), it must be changed to a shallower setting so that the shears can work deeper to pull the tine
unit into the ground.
