HOT-SWAPPING OF BOARDS
4.1
General
This chapter explains the procedure of exchanging, adding or replacing a board in the ASB150 02
without switching off the power. This procedure can be used for all system boards except the CPU,
IC-LU, VMU-D and AUX boards. Changing boards without switching off the power should mainly be
used to replace faulty boards or for expanding an existing hardware configuration.
4.2
Prerequisites
Boards can only be replaced by boards of the same type, with the same number of individuals. This
limitation applies also for changing the number of individuals on an IC-CU-board. Just changing the
FECU may cause serious memory allocation problems which may lead to a warmstart of the whole
system. New boards shall be inserted in a vacant position only. If the RASC-PC is connected to the
system via an AUX-board, this board must not be removed. If RASC is connected via a modem it is
not possible to perform any hot swapping action.
4.3
Procedure
This action can be invoked either by pressing the appropiate function keys (see
) or by executing the system command called ‘Shutdown’ in the pull down menu
located in the RASC menu ‘System data’:
System data/shut down/reroute position/cmd: 2095
To exchange (a) board(s) in a running system please follow the five steps below:
1
One or more boards need to be shutdown (see
Shutdown of board(s) on page 18
2
Change or insert new board(s) (see
Adding (a) new board(s) to the system on page 19
3
Search for and activate (a) new board(s) (see
Search for new boards on page 19
4
Re-programming of boards (if needed)
5
Check and erase warnings in the warning-log, which may have occurred because the board has
not been available during hot swapping.
