Creating a Survey Controller Run with ProRAE Guardian Instruments
Generic CAP Streams are added when a run is being created in VIPER Survey Controller’s ‘Run
Configuration Wizard’. It is very similar to the way LINC/instruments are added.
1. Start a new run in Survey Controller.
2. After entering the Run Name and Description, in the Add
LINC/Instrument dialog box, select
‘Generic CAP
Stream’
as the LINC Type. The instruments from
ProRAE Guardian should appear, as well as any other
Generic CAP streams, such as the Smart Gateway
MeterApp or the NOAA MeterApp (if running).
This list is updated in real-time as Survey Controller
receives data. If an instrument is missing, it may take a
few moments for PRG2CAP to receive that instrument’s
data from the ProRAE Guardian software. Wait until all
desired instruments are listed.
3. Select the desired instrument(s) using the ‘Control Click’
and/or ‘Shift Click’ allowing multiple instruments to be selected.
4. Click
OK
when the desired instruments are selected.
5. Click
Next
through the Survey Controller wizard and make any other necessary changes, such as
identifying the AreaRAE locations, selecting reading intervals, etc. (see Viper User Guide, Section
Three – Part E for additional information). When all changes have been made, click Finish. Answer
Yes
to ‘Start Recording Data Now’.
Tips, Tricks and Troubleshooting
RAE Systems has a service called ‘Care Center SVC’ that also listens in on Port 9727. If there is a
conflict, change the Port in ProRAE Guardian and PRG2CAP to 9728.
If no instruments appear when adding a LINC/Instrument, PRG2CAP is not sending CAP to Survey
Controller. The issue is either between the ProRAE Guardian software and PRG2CAP, or between
PRG2CAP and Survey Controller. Verify in ProRAE Guard | Systems Options that the data is
‘Cascading Out’.
PRG2CAP also writes an error log next to its executable (.exe) for troubleshooting purposes.
