The EVER UPS power supply unit works with a wide range of input voltages and is
also capable of operating in the hybrid mode (Fig. 17c). In order to meet the power
demand (at the UPS output) from the loads being supplied, when the mains voltage
drops, the current drawn from the mains increases, until the I
max
value is reached.
During this time the UPS unit remains in the mains (normal) mode of operation. After
the maximum value of current for the rectifier circuit has been exceeded (with the
mains voltage higher than the pre-set lower limit for the wide range that has been
specified), the UPS unit will switch to the hybrid mode. In these conditions the power
drawn from the mains is be restricted by the maximum input current while the
remaining power demanded by the supplied loads will be supplied from batteries (the
battery packs are used to cover the difference between the power demand and the
power drawn from the mains when the mains shows unsatisfactory parameters). The
duration of the backup operation when supplying power to loads in the hybrid mode
may be calculated in the similar way to battery discharge time (in the BATTERY
mode), when the system is under load equal to this power difference.
In conventional systems, whenever the hybrid mode is not available, the battery
mode is used which means that the entire power supply energy will be drawn
from batteries. This will result in considerably shortened available backup time.
