4.5.12.4. Setting up the Internet Protocol Subnet Mask for the TIME Ethernet Port
GENERAL
This menu item defines the IP subnet mask for the TIME Ethernet port.
Specifically, this setting defines the IP addresses that the 5601MSC can
directly communicate with on the TIME port, without having to go through
the gateway. When the 5601MSC responds to an IP address outside its
subnet it will forward the packet to the gateway address, if enabled. The
subnet mask is usually set to 255.255.255.0 for a private network.

4.5.12.5. Setting Up the Internet Protocol Gateway Address
GENERAL
This menu item identifies the IP address of the gateway or router. In a
private network, this gateway could be identified as 172.21.1.Y.
This tells the 5601MSC where to forward packets that are destined for an
IP address outside the IP address range defined by the subnet mask. This
menu item is ignored if the gateway is not enabled.

4.5.12.6. Enabling or Disabling Usage of the Internet Protocol Gateway
GENERAL
This item is used to enable or disable the 5601MSC from responding to
packets coming from outside the local subnet.
When set to
gateway on
, the 5601MSC will respond to SNMP and NTP
requests that come from outside the local subnet by sending the response
packets to the gateway for delivery.
When set to
gateway off
, the 5601MSC will not attempt to respond to
SNMP or NTP requests that come from outside the defined subnet.

4.5.12.7. Configuring IP Broadcast Packet Handling
GENERAL
This item is used to control how the 5601MSC responds to broadcast
packets on each of the Ethernet ports.
When set to
ctrl en, time e
, the 5601MSC will respond to all broadcast
packets on both Ethernet ports. This is the default mode of operation but
may cause the Ethernet ports to become overloaded if there is a large
amount of broadcast traffic on the networks.
When set to
ctrl rej, time e
, the 5601MSC will reject broadcast packets on
the CONTROL port, and reply to broadcast packets on the TIME port.
When set to
ctrl en, time r
, the 5601MSC will respond to broadcast packets
on the CONTROL port, but reject broadcast packets on the TIME port.
When set to
ctrl rej, time r
, the 5601MSC will reject broadcast packets on
both the CONTROL port and the TIME port.
