OPERATION
In the
time rctl
mode, the inputs on the Parallel remote control port are used to control the remote
control user bits. When the
GEN MODE
is set to any of the other modes, then the inputs revert to their
normal functions as described in section 3.7.9.2. The parallel port pin designations in remote control
mode are shown in Table 3-3 below. Table 3-3 also shows the corresponding output pins of the
7721GPI-D decoder and the user bits that control them.
The parallel port is the default input source for
time rctl
mode. It will automatically be selected as the
input source whenever a rising or falling edge is detected on any of the five pins monitored by the
system. The remote control user bits may also be set from the serial port using command 8A. (See
section 4.9 below) When the user bits have been set from the serial port, the present state of all
parallel port pins except
VITC enable
and
Bypass
will be ignored. The parallel port will only become
the input source again if
any one
of the port pins changes state.

Please Note: Some early versions of the 7721GPI-D only support outputs 1 to 5.
These units can be upgraded to support all six outputs. Contact Evertz customer
service for information on how to upgrade these units.
3.7.9.2. Assigning the Functions of the General Purpose Inputs
When the
GEN MODE
is
NOT
set to
time rctl
there are four dedicated remote control input pins and two
user programmable inputs. The dedicated input functions are as follows:
VCG ON/OFF:
Provides an alternate method of turning the character inserter generator On and Off.
The character inserter is toggled On or Off by a high to low transition on this input. This
input has equal priority with the front panel CHAR GEN ON/OFF key.
VITC ENABLE:
Provides an alternate method of turning the VITC generator On and Off. The VITC
generator is turned On by a high to low transition on this input, and turned Off by a low to
high transition.
BYPASS:
When closed to ground this input activates the SDI bypass relay.
JAM SYNC:
Provides an alternate method of syncing the generator time of the active reader time
when the unit is not in the
convert
mode. Momentarily closing this input to ground and
releasing it will perform a synchronization to the reader time.
The
GPI1 ASSIGNMENT
and
GPI2 ASSIGNMENT
menu items are used to select the functions of the
other two general purpose inputs (GPI 1 and GPI 2). The operation of both menus is identical so only
the GPI1 Assignment menu will be shown.
