OPERATION
The operator can select which video input is used as the source of upstream CEA-608 and CEA-708
captions. At any time, the HD9084 only uses one video input as the upstream caption source. The
three Source Controls use a priority scheme, with NO INPUT having the highest priority and SD-SDI
INPUT having the lowest priority. Upstream captions are also blocked if all three controls are set OFF.
This system makes it easy to configure a GPI to switch between upstream caption sources, or block all
upstream captions, where desired. The following Table 3-1 is a configuration table of how to select the
upstream captions to be processed. These menu controls are further described below in sections
3.4.4.1 to 3.4.4.4.

3.4.4.1.
No Input Source
The NO INPUT SOURCE control is the upstream caption source control with the highest priority. It
allows the user to enable or disable upstream captions from passing. If the NO INPUT SOURCE option
is set to ON, the HD9084 will not process upstream CEA-608 nor CEA-708 captions. If the NO INPUT
SOURCE option is set to OFF, the upstream captions processed will be dependent on the setting of the
SD-SDI input or the HD-SDI input functions. The NO INPUT SOURCE can also be triggered using
GPI’s A through G.
3.4.4.2.
HD-SDI Input SRC
The HD-SDI Input Source control allows the user to enable or disable the HD-SDI video input as the
source of upstream captions. If the HD-SDI option is enabled ON, it has higher priority than the SD-SDI
input source control, which will be ignored. The HD-SDI Input Source can also be controlled via GPI.
GPI’s A-G are available to enable this control.
3.4.4.3.
SD-SDI Input SRC
The SD-SDI Input Source control allows the user to enable or disable the SD-SDI video input as the
source of upstream captions. The SD-SDI Input Source control has lower priority than either No Input
Source or HD-SDI Input Source controls; if either of these are ON then SD-SDI Input Source will be
ignored (treated as OFF). The SD-SDI Input SRC can also be configured to control via GPI. GPI’s A-G
are available to trigger this control.
3.4.4.4.
Pass Upstream
The Pass Upstream control allows the user to configure individual upstream caption services to pass or
block. Selectable services include 1 through 63, CC1 through CC4, T1 through T4, and XDS. The Set
All Services is a time-saving option that allows all caption services to be set to pass or block at once.
