OPERATION
When Port C mode is set to “Dolby Metadata In” the baud rate is forced to
115200bps, 8-N-1. Port C must be configured for RS-422 communication.
3.6.1.2.
Port x Baud
The Port x Baud option sets the baud rate of the selected port. Baud rates for all protocols have been
pre-programmed. Always check to make sure the desired baud rate is selected when a different
protocol is selected. Baud Rate is not applicable to telnet Port F.
Baud Rate on Ports A through C
:
1200
, 2400, 9600, 14400, 19200, 38400, 57600, 115200.
Baud Rate on Port D/E:
auto, 1200,
2400
, 9600.
If the baud rate of modem Port D/E is changed while the modem is in use, the new
baud rate will not take effect until the caller disconnects from the modem.
3.6.1.3.
Port x Comms
Port x Comms configures the communication settings, namely word size and start bits, of each port.
This menu is not applicable to telnet port F. The default settings are shown below:
8-None-1 (default on Port D/E)
7-Odd-1 (default on Ports A through C)
7-Even-1
3.6.1.4.
Port x Enable
The Port x Enable control allows the user to individually enable or disable the communication ports. A
port may be explicitly enabled or disabled, enabled based on the state of a GPI pin, or enabled only
when the modem(s) or telnet (Port F) are not in use.
3.6.1.5.
Port x Rings
This control is only available for modem Ports D and E (optional). Each modem can be configured to
answer the telephone line after 1 or 3 rings. This allows redundancy by connecting both modems to the
same phone line, or two separate caption encoders to the same phone line. The modem which is set to
“1 ring” will be the primary modem, and the one set to “3 rings” will be a backup.
3.6.1.6.
Inactive Timeout (Port F only)
Telnet port F has an inactivity timer that will cause it to disconnect if no data is received before the
timeout period expires. This allows the port to reset automatically if the connection is lost. The timeout
period is adjustable from 1 to 31 minutes. Operators should set this to be longer than the longest
expected time that a remote captioner may sit without sending any captions to the HD9084, such as
through a commercial segment.
3.6.1.7.
Telnet Login Enable (Port F only)
When a remote system connects via telnet, the HD9084 optionally queries for a login name and
password. The Telnet Login Enb menu item enables or disables the login and password authentication.
