INSTALLATION
When connecting two X0401 series routers together in a master/slave relationship make sure that the
REMOTE CTL
port is configured the same at both ends (including the RS232 or RS422 wiring). Use the
cable shown in Table 2-6 for RS-232 wiring and the cable shown in Table 2-7 for RS-422 wiring. The user
can also order a 5600 syncro cable (approx. 1 foot in length) or a 9600-SW-I-0 cable (approx. 5 feet in
length) to interconnect two routers with RS-232 wiring. For other applications, consult the manual for the
equipment that you are connecting, configure the port accordingly and use the information in Table 2-1 to
make an appropriate cable.

CONTROLLING THE ROUTER USING VISTALINK
®
X0401H Series routers fitted with the “+ET” option have a 10Base-T or 100Base-TX Ethernet port, which
is used as a point of access to communicate with VistaLINK
®
for crosspoint routing through the use of
Simple Network Management Protocol. (At the time of writing this option is only available on the X0401H-
AES4-HES version.) These routers are designed to be used with either 10Base-T (10 Mbps) or 100Base-
TX (100 Mbps) also known as
Fast Ethernet
, twisted pair Ethernet cabling systems. When connecting for
10Base-T systems, category 3, 4, or 5 UTP cable as well as EIA/TIA – 568 100
Ω
STP cable may be used.
