7.3 Frequency Response Tests
The Frequency Response test is used to indicate the frequency response of the twisted copper pair cable.
Frequency Response test can be run End-to-End or Single-Ended; both are explained in Section 7.3.1 and
7.3.2.
7.3.1 Single Ended Frequency Response Test
Note: This is a Single-Ended test
The Single-End test is actually performing the frequency response test from the cable connection point to the
point of the cable where the first major reflection occurs. It gives the user the picture of frequency response
of the cable from the connection point to the first reflection point. If the first reflection point is the end of the
cable, then the test result is the frequency response of the whole cable.
1. From the Main Menu, select CABLE TESTS (function button F1).
2. Choose Frequency Response from the pop-up menu, and SINGLE END from the sub-menu. Press the
RUN/STOP key.
3. Press the RUN / STOP button to start the Single-End test. When the test is completed, the user can
move the cursor to get all the information numerically and graphically. If the test failed, a warning label
will be displayed indicating that the: Loop fault, try end-to-end frequency response test.
To repeat the test, press the RUN/STOP button. You can also change option settings if you wish by
pressing the function button associated with TEST SETUP.
7.3.2 End to End Frequency Response Test
Note: This is an End-to-End test
The End-To-End Frequency Response test is doing the frequency response test from the two ends of the
cable. Therefore, the CableSHARK can give the user information about the whole cable as well as load coils,
interference and many types of cable faults. Multiple load coils inserted in a 24 AWG cable up to 45,000 ft
can be detected.
Setting up the Transmit (Tx) unit
To set one of the CableSHARK’s in TX mode, select the
RESPOND. MODE
from the
MAIN MENU
. This
mode is enabled to allow hands free operation so only one person is needed to do testing. This mode works
