NTRODUCTION
Note:
This manual covers two different handheld power meters (FOT-10A and
FOT-20A) and a fiber-optic tester (FOT-30A), hereafter referred to as FOT. The
described functions apply to all products unless otherwise specified.
1.1 Unpacking and Inspection
The FOT package contains the following standard items:
•
FOT-10A or FOT-20A Power Meter, or FOT-30A Fiber-Optic Tester
•
FOA-XX connector adapter
•
Two 9 V alkaline batteries (one installed and one spare)
•
AC adapter/charger
•
Holster with shoulder strap
•
Instruction manual
•
Warranty validation card
•
Certificate of Compliance
•
Declaration of Conformity
•
Carrying case
•
Cleaning pads
Your FOT has been thoroughly inspected before shipment. If any damage has
occurred during transport, or if any item is missing, please notify EXFO immediately.
1.2 Transportation and Storage
To reduce the risk of damage,
•
Repack the unit in the original packing material when shipping.
•
Store the unit at room temperature in a clean and dry area.
•
Avoid direct sunlight, shocks, humidity, or large temperature fluctuations.
1.3 Safety Information and Source Specifications
CAUTION
Use of controls, adjustments, and procedures for operation and maintenance
other than those specified herein may result in hazardous radiation exposure.
Do not install or terminate fibers while an LED or laser source is active. Never
look directly into a live fiber and ensure that your eyes are protected at all times.
Use of optical instruments with this product will increase eye hazard.
If your FOT-30A is configured with a laser source, its maximum optical power output
is -2 dBm and it complies with 21 CFR 1040.10 and 1040.11, and also with IEC 60825-
1: 1993 + A1: 1997. The safety explanatory label is located at the back of the unit.
