Resistive Balance Test
Summary
The
Resistive Balance
test is a reliable way to understand pair balance
using resistance measurements and a far end strap. Compared to regular
resistance tests,
Resistive Balance
isolates the resistance of each
conductor (leg) which should ideally be the same within 5%; if not, and if
there are no other metallic faults (for example, a ground/earth fault), then a
highly resistive (HR) fault may be present. An HR can otherwise be very
difficult to identify. Use
Pair Detective
or
TDR
or
RFL
to locate the HR.
