2493
bytes in hex format. The specified or learned MAC address is copied into the destination MAC address
field of the VPLS echo request and is included in the L2-VPN Prefix Target FEC TLV. By default, the
switch's MAC address is used for the source MAC address of the VPLS echo request. The
from
keyword
optionally specifies the source MAC address used for the VPLS echo request. This option allows the
VPLS echo request to be sent as if it originated from a customer's source MAC address. If link
aggregation is supported along the path to the destination MAC address, this insures that the VPLS
ping verifies connectivity through the VPLS network for the exact same path that the customer's traffic
would travel.
The optional
continuous
keyword specifies that VPLS ping packets be sent continuously. The operation
can be interrupted by pressing any key.
The optional size keyword specifies the number of bytes to include as payload data in the VPLS ping
packet. If no
start_size
parameter is specified, the size of the payload data is eight bytes. The
minimum valid
start_size
value is one. The maximum
start_size
value is variable, depending on
the type of VPLS ping packet sent, but the total size of the VPLS ping packet cannot exceed the
configured jumbo packet size, if jumbo frames are enabled, or 1518 if jumbo frames are disabled. If the
end_size
parameter is specified, the size of the packet will increment by one byte for each new VPLS
echo request sent. The next VPLS echo request is not sent until the VPLS echo response for the previous
packet is received. This is useful for detecting interface MTU mismatch configurations between VPLS
nodes. The node ceases sending VPLS echo requests when the specified
end_size
value is reached, the
VPLS ping is interrupted, or a VPLS echo response is not received after four successive retries.
The optional
reply-mode
keyword is used to specify the return path for the VPLS echo response. When
the ip option is specified, the VPLS echo reply is routed back to the sender, specified in the L2 VPN
Prefix sub-TLV, via an IPv4 packet with the IP Router Alert option. If the
mpls
option is specified, the
VPLS echo reply is routed back to the sender over an MPLS LSP. If no LSP is available, the VPLS echo
reply is not sent. When the
vpls
option is specified, the VPLS echo reply is switched in-band back to
the sender via a VPLS encapsulated IPv4 packet. This option is useful for determining if there is a
failure along the return VPLS VC-LSP path. If the
reply-mode
is not specified, the vpls reply mode is
used.
