Repair and Service Manual
Read all of Section B and this section before attempting any procedure. Pay particular attention to all Notes, Cautions and Warnings
If lubricant is to be added, use a funnel and add correct
type lubricant (Ref Transfer Case in Capacities table in
GENERAL INFORMATION & ROUTINE MAINTE-
NANCE) slowly until it starts to seep from hole and install
plug.
To replace lubricant, a drain plug (item 2) is provided at
bottom of transmission.
Tighten the fill plug to the torque per torque specification
table given below.
SPARK ARRESTER CLEANING
To reduce possibility of
burns, allow muffler to
cool before servicing
and never operate vehicle without spark arrester in
good condition and in place.
Release the handle and raise the truck bed.
Remove screw (item 1) securing spark arrester (item 2)
and pull arrester (item 2) from muffler (item 3) (Ref Fig.
22 on page H-15). Brush off carbon deposits from
arrester screen without damaging screen (Ref Fig. 23 on
page H-15). Screen must be intact.
Replace spark arrester if screen is torn or otherwise
damaged. Install arrester on muffler and secure with
screw.
ENGINE SUB FRAME REPLACEMENT
T h e f o l l o w i n g s t e p
involves lifting substan-
tial weight. Two people
are recommended. Use of a personal back support
brace and proper lifting technique is required to pre-
vent personal injury.
To prevent serious personal injury or death resulting
from a battery explosion, always disconnect the nega-
tive (-) battery cable first using insulated wrench
before starting engine subframe removal.
In the following text, there are references to
removing/installing bolts, etc. Additional hard-
ware (nuts, washers, etc.) that is removed must always be
installed in its original position unless otherwise specified. Non
specified torque figures are as shown in the table contained in
Section A.
Note the location of wires, wire ties and clamps before removal
and always install them in their original location. Use of mask-
ing tape to label wires is recommended.
