Repair and Service Manual
Read all of Section B and this section before attempting any procedure. Pay particular attention to all Notes, Cautions and Warnings
The installation of the tie rod end is the reverse of disas-
sembly using new cotter pin.
Replace the front wheels per WHEELS AND TIRES sec-
tion and lower vehicle.
Tighten the hardware per torque specification table
below.
Control Arm Replacement
A worn control arm bushing (item 6) (Ref Fig. 4
on page J-3) can be identified by checking for
excessive play. Lift the vehicle and check the wheel by attempt-
ing to rock it back and forth to check for excessive play.

Lift and support front of the vehicle per SAFETY section.
Control Arm (Knuckle End Removal)
Remove the cotter pin (item 1) and castle nut (item 2)
using needle nose pliers and 3/4" wrench from the con-
trol arm end ball joint (Ref Fig. 4 on page J-3). Tap off
control arm knuckle end (item 3) using a plastic faced
hammer.
Control Arm (Frame End Removal)
Remove the bolt (item 4) using 3/4" wrench (Ref Fig. 4
on page J-3). Remove the nut (item 5) and remove the
control arm (item 3).
The installation of the control arm is the reverse of disas-
sembly using new cotter pin.
