DIRECTION SELECTOR
Direction Selector Replacement
To prevent serious per-
sona l injury or death
resulting from explosion
caused by an electrical arc, be sure that the battery
negative (-) cable is removed before removing the
direction selector.
Cover battery with a shop rag before attempting to
remove direction/drive selector components.
Direction selector adjustment or replacement
should be done in neutral position.

Combination wrench, 9/16" ......................................... 2
Raise the cowl and latch the support. Unscrew and
remove the knob (item 1) from the direction selector han-
dle (item 2) (Ref Fig. 4 on page F-3). Remove the lock
nut (item 3) and pivot shaft (item 4) attaching the direc-
tion selector bracket (item 5) to the shifter housing (item
6) from back side of dash. Remove direction selector
cable (item 7) (Ref Direction And Drive Selector Cables
Adjustment Section on page F-2). Remove the direction
selector from the vehicle.
Installation of direction selector is the reverse of disas-
sembly using new lock nut.
Direction selector knob should be in neutral position dur-
ing assembly of new components.
Tighten the hardware per torque specification table
below.

Drive Selector Replacement

Drive selector adjustment or replacement
should be done in 2 wheel drive position.
