You can create a Room on Portal to video call with up to 50 people at a time. To create a Room
or join a Room you’ve been invited to, click on the Contacts App on your device, select
“Rooms,” and you will see a full list of your Rooms and have the option to create a Room. You
can also manually type in a URL to a Room you were invited to.
Shared In-Call Experiences
Watch Together:
Watch Together is an experience on Portal, Messenger, and Instagram that
allows you to watch videos, TV shows, and movies with family and friends - plus any Watch
Together original content. We’ve updated the Watch Together experience so you can watch
shows together, not just Portal to Portal. Now, you can enjoy Watch Together from any Portal
device (note, this is for U.S. only with international support coming later), and your friends can
be on Portal or a laptop, tablet or smartphone through Messenger.
From your call, tap your screen to view the call controls, then swipe up to view your apps. From
there, tap “Watch Together” on the bottom menu, select a category, and browse and search
using the menu on the top of your screen.
AR Effects & Backgrounds:
AR Effects can be used while on a call (tap the grey “Effects”
icon) or off of a call via Photo Booth. Some of the effects change your voice, too. You can also
try new shared effects like the
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
Curtain Call experience, which
let you and up to three friends transform into characters from the play during portal-to-Portal
video calls. You can also have fun with
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
AR masks and
backgrounds.
Story Time:
To tell a story via Story Time, select the “Story Time” icon on the bottom of the
display while you’re on a call and choose the story you’d like to tell. We recommend checking
out “Build a Story,” which lets you choose the hero, setting, conflict, resolution of your own story.
You’ll need a Portal to tell a story via Story Time but anyone, whether they’re using Messenger
or WhatsApp on their phone, tablet or another Portal device, can watch the story.
