8.2 Threading preparation.
8.2.1. Horn threading for Blake stitching.
To carry out this operation, proceed as follows:
- Turn off the machine using the mains switch and disconnect the machine cable from the
electricity supply.
- Open the front door that closes the machine base using the key supplied with the machine.
- Place the spool with the thread in its appropriate housing , located in a niche in the lower left
hand side of the machine.
- Unwind a little thread from the spool, and pass the thread through the thread guides following
the path shown in the drawing.
- Using the thread-puller tool supplied with the machine, hook up the end of the thread which is
now in the machine base, and pull it up through the hole on the base of the horn.
- Pass the thread through the threading guides in the horn and the side hole on the whirl
(n. 0533).
- Check that the thread has followed the correct path right from the beginning before exiting from
the horn tip.
- When the thread exits from the tip, pick up the thread end and pull it through enough so that
you find the thread already soaked in the oil emulsion in your hand.
- Keeping the thread taught, tie it to the spring n. 0539 on the side of the horn.
Warning:
- To avoid thread blocking during sewing operations, lubrify the thread guides from time to time.
- The lower part of the thread path passes through the emulsion container (n. 2317): this
container is located in the metal box n. 6221.02.
For cleaning purposes the container can be removed by moving the box upwards, and then
pushing it slightly backwards so that it can be slid out from the two support hooks. The whole
block can then be removed.
For best sewing results, the emulsion in the container should be 80% water and 20%
emulsionable chemical oil. A can of this oil is supplied with the machine.
Before each production cycle, control the emulsion level in the container. It should be almost
full, so when necessary, top up the container.
- When the spool is empty, to replace the horn thread, place a new spool in the appropriate
housing and pass the new thread end through the guides as described above.
