Avoid sharp edges and abrasive surfaces.
APPLICATION:
Bosun's seats are designed for use as part of a personnel riding or suspension system in conjunction with
a backup fall arrest system, for those users working at height and subject to falls. The bosun's seat may be used in
window washing, painting, maintenance and inspection applications. Bosun's seats by themselves are not suited for fall
protection.
ANCHORAGE STRENGTH:
Anchorage requirements are dependent on the application. The bosun's seat is not designed
to be the fall arrest system. Anchorage strength for work positioning must be at least 3,000 lbs, or twice the impact load,
whichever is greater. Personnel riding systems anchorages must be able to sustain a static load of 2,500 lbs applied in
the direction permitted by the riding system when in use.
Swing Fall:
Swing falls occur when the user is not directly under the anchor point. Take action to minimize swing falls by
working as close to directly under the anchor as possible. Swing falls may cause serious injury or death.
OPERATION:
Inspect the bosun's seat before each use. Don the FBH in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
Stand with the seat behind you. Buckle the seat belt, if so equipped, around your body to a snug fit. Bring the two
connecting D-rings together in front of you. Connect the seat support lanyard snap hook to both D-rings. Ensure you are
fully in the seat, the D-rings connected and your weight comfortably supported. Connect the Fall Protection System to
the FBH in accordance with instructions from that equipment manufacturer.
INSPECTION:
Inspect wood parts for cracks, ensure hardware is in good working order, and the webbing is free of cuts,
burns, frayed areas and chemical damage.
MAINTENANCE, SERVICE AND STORAGE:
Avoid a build-up of contaminants like paint, dirt and grease.
Clean the webbing
with a mild detergent solution. Wipe hardware with clean dry cloth. Allow to air dry. Service must be completed by an
authorized service repair facility. Store the seat by hanging it indoors, out of direct sunlight, away from harmful vapors.
Inspect the seat after an extended period of storage.
