Currents
Special icons mark the locations of Current Stations throughout your chart coverage
area. The icon comes in two sizes: a small version for small-scale charts, and a large
version for large-scale charts (or when the display has enough real estate for the larger
icon).
The small version of the icon is labeled “CUR” (for “current”). The larger version uses
shape and color to provide data about the direction of the current, its speed and whether
it is flooding or ebbing.
The picture below illustrates the different phases of the current icon. The icons change
in appearance over the course of the day, to reflect the present conditions at that current
station.
The arrow symbol points in the general direction of the current. Note that as the speed
increases, the arrow symbol becomes filled with color. A completely filled arrow
represents that the current is moving at or near maximum speed. Color is removed from
the arrow outline as the current speed decreases. A plus sign indicates that the speed is
increasing. When no plus sign is present, the speed is lessening.

A special symbol (a combination of the red and blue arrows) indicates slack water.
