5.10 Cleaning, checking the
spark plug, replacing if nec-
essary

Danger
Danger of burning!
Let the engine cool down for approx. 15 min-
utes before unscrewing the spark plug.
!
Caution
In case of excessive combustion residues or
burned off electrodes replace the spark plug.
Do not use spark plugs with incorrect heat val-
ue. An incorrect spark plug can cause damage
to the engine.
Recommended spark plugs:
NGK: CR5HSB
Denso: U16FSR-UB

Loosen the screws (1, 2) (Fig. 35) for the guide
handle.

Pull the screws (1) out on right and left hand
side and fold the steering handle up.

Pull off the spark plug socket (1) (Fig. 36).

Unscrew the spark plug using a 5/8 inch spark
plug spanner.

Check the spark plug (Fig. 37) visually and
clean it if necessary.
l
Check the electrode gap with a feeler gauge, if
necessary adjust the gap to 0,6 to 0,7 mm.
l
Turn the spark plug carefully in by hand.
l
Once the sealing surface of the new spark
plug is in contact tighten for another 1/2 turn
with the spark plug spanner.
l
Once the sealing surface of the used spark
plug is in contact tighten for another 1/8 to 1/4
turn with the spark plug spanner.
l
Attach the spark plug spanner, fold down the
steering handle and fasten with screws.
