6.13 Check, clean the spark plug,
replace if necessary

!
Danger of burning!
Let the engine cool down before unscrewing
the spark plug.
Caution
!
In case of excessive combustion residues,
burned off electrodes or torn insulator replace
the spark plug.
Do not use spark plugs with incorrect heat val-
ue. An incorrect spark plug can cause damage
to the engine.

Pull off the spark plug socket (1) (Fig. 52) and
unscrew the spark plug (2).

Check the spark plug (Fig. 53) visually and
clean it if necessary.

Check the electrode gap with a feeler gauge, if
necessary adjust the gap to 0.7 - 0.8 mm
(0.028 - 0,032 in).
l
Turn the spark plug carefully in by hand.
l
Once the sealing surface of the new spark
plug is in contact tighten for another 1/2 turn
with the spark plug spanner.
l
Once the sealing surface of the used spark
plug is in contact tighten for another 1/8 to 1/4
turn with the spark plug spanner.
Caution
!
The spark plug must be correctly tightened. An
incorrectly tightened spark plug can get very
hot and cause engine damage.
