operation for an extended period of time with tempera-
tures below 12°F (-11°C), the DEF in the tank may freeze. If
the tank is overfilled and freezes, it could be damaged.
Therefore, do not overfill the DEF tank.
Extra care should be taken when filling with portable
containers to avoid overfilling. Note the level of the DEF
gauge in your instrument cluster. You may safely add a
maximum of 2 gallons (7.5 Liters) of DEF from portable
containers when your DEF gauge is reading ½ full.
TRAILER TOWING
In this section you will find safety tips and information on
limits to the type of towing you can reasonably do with
your vehicle. Before towing a trailer, carefully review this
information to tow your load as efficiently and safely as
possible.
To maintain the New Vehicle Limited Warranty coverage,
follow the requirements and recommendations in this
manual concerning vehicles used for trailer towing.
Towing Tips — 6 Speed Transmission Only
When towing a loaded trailer up steep grades at low
speeds 20 mph (32 km/h) or below, holding your vehicle in
first gear (using the ERS shift control) can help to avoid
transmission overheating.
If you regularly tow a trailer for more than 45 minutes of
continuous operation, then change the transmission fluid
and filter(s) as specified for
⬙
police, taxi, fleet, or frequent
trailer towing.
⬙
Refer to the “Maintenance Schedule” for
the proper maintenance intervals.
NOTE:
Check the transmission fluid level before towing
(6-speed automatic only).
