3 USING THE MULTIMETER

3.1 Preliminary notes

Check that the probes are in good condition. If they are damaged, replace them.

The function selector switch must be positioned on the appropriate scale before use.

Do not perform measurements of voltage or current that exceed the maximum capacity

of the instrument.

Properly insert the battery in its compartment.

Always select a capacity which is greater than the value of current or voltage to be

measured.

Make sure the probes are properly connected to the circuit.

Remove the battery from the instrument when not in use for a long time.

Remember to turn off the instrument after use.

Do not attempt to measure the resistors inserted into live circuits or before discharging

any internal capacity of the circuit.

Select the switch depending on AC or DC.

3.2 Measurement of DC voltage DCV

1. Move the function switch to the "V" position.
2. Point the selector to the desired position If the voltage is not know, point the selector

to the highest range and reduce it to reach the appropriate range.

3. Connect the probes. The polarity of the red probe will be shown at the same time as

the voltage.

3.3 Measuring direct current DCA

1. Move the function switch to the "V" position.
2. Point the selector to the position 200mA.
3. Connect the probes. Read the value on the display.

3.4 Measuring AC voltage ACV

1. Move the function switch to the V position.
2. Point the selector to the position 200V or 500V. The reading of the measurement can

be obtained in other positions, but the decimal point is not in the exact position.

3. Open the circuit to be measured and connect the probes to the two extremes.
4. Read the value obtained on the display together with the correct polarity.
