TROUBLESHOOTING
SUGGESTED REMEDY
SEE #9
DANGER
: Never use un-in-
sulated stove pipe as chim-
ney. It must not be used on
the inside of your home due
to high stack temperatures
create an extreme fire haz-
ard. Un-insulated pipe can
not be used as an outside
flues as it causes rapid cool-
ing of the stack gases,
thereby causing them to
condense as creosote on the
inside of the flue.
Inspect entire flue run - from
the exhaust stack of the fur-
nace to the termination cap.
Repair as necessary.
Furnace room may be too
airtight to supply sufficient
amount of oxygen for com-
bustion. We recommend in-
stalling an aperture to the
outside consisting of a mini-
mum of fifteen square inches
or 4” round.
Install stainless steel liner in
the masonry chimney to re-
duce creosote formation and
improve draw. Use appro-
priately sized stainless liner
for the furnace.
PROBABLE CAUSE
• Insufficient chimney
draft.
• Using Un-insulated stove
pipe for the chimney, espe-
cially if the construction is on
the exterior of the home.
• Improper connection in
stove pipe causing air leak-
age or a structural defect in
the chimney itself.
• Firebox not receiving ad-
equate amount of oxygen.
• Use of an unlined masonry
chimney with a large clay tile
opening.
PROBLEM
14. Rapid accumulation of
creosote,
continued.
