Maintenance
To maintain the VEU-A10 detector at its peak performance level, the recommended maintenance schedule
shown in Table 7-1 below should be followed.

The above maintenance steps are preventative maintenance.
l
Maintenance can be conducted by the original installer or an authorized distributor or service contractor.
l
The required frequency of maintenance checks may vary depending upon local codes and standards and
the environment of the installation.
l
When smoke testing is done, follow the site procedures for preventing false alarms to monitoring
services.
Caution:
While the detector is disabled or put into Standby mode, no fire warnings will be annunciated by
the detector. Prior to any maintenance or testing:
l
Inform the appropriate supervising authority.
l
Ensure that any ancillary devices dependent on the detector are isolated before work
commences.

7.1
Standby
When maintenance is performed on the pipe network or sample points it is recommended that you temporarily
set the detector to Standby in order to turn off the aspirator. Setting the VEU-A10 to Standby mode
deactivates the aspirator and stops all detection of alarms (but not detection and signaling of faults). Standby
mode is signaled on relay #1 by default. Other relays may also be configured to signal standby mode. Refer to
sections 4.3.6 and 5.5.10 for further information. For example, standby mode may be also signaled as an
additional condition on the Fault Relay (Relay #3).
To set the detector to Standby mode using Xtralis VSC, select Go to Standby from the Device menu. The
Disabled LED will blink and the aspirator will turn off. If configured the buzzer will beep once per minute if the
Standby beep checkbox on the Relay configuration screen (section 5.5.10) is ticked.
To re-activate the unit, select End Standby from the Device menu.
