The Wind Modifiers and Overrides boundary box is divided into two groups; Wind Modifiers and Wind
Overrides. Wind Modifiers contains buttons with preset values that can be used to modify Variable Wind
Direction or Gust. The corresponding wind gusts will be inserted when the magnitude is greater than the
current wind velocity. The gust override selection is maximum speed for the winds. If the wind speed is
greater than the selected gust speed, there is no effect. Wind Modifiers may be selected using the direct
entry button containing preset values or by selecting the data entry button to access a keypad to enter
other values. Any combination of the modifiers may be used at one time.
Wind Overrides contains buttons with preset values that can be used to modify Crosswind, Current Wind
Speed, or Current Wind Direction. These may be selected using the direct entry buttons containing preset
values or by selecting the data entry button to access a keypad to enter other values. Any combination of
the three overrides may be used at one time.
The Crosswind override produces the selected crosswind component by changing the wind direction,
speed, or both. The crosswind may be set directly by selecting from among the preset buttons, or the
keypad may be called by selecting the CROSSWIND button. If the normal wind speed is less than the
selected crosswind component, then the wind speed will be set to the selected crosswind component and
the wind direction will be set to a 90-degree angle relative to the reference runway. If the normal wind
speed is greater than the selected crosswind component, then the wind direction will be changed to produce
the selected crosswind component and the speed will not be changed.
A CLEAR ALL direct entry button is provided to easily clear all modifiers and overrides. When cleared,
the winds revert to the normal wind values. If the normal wind values are changed using another page,
then any Wind training overrides are canceled.
