ATIS
The Automatic Terminal Information Service Control (ATIS) function is accessed by selecting the ATIS
page button on the Master Index page or the Environment/Visual page. See Figure 3-29. This page is
used to monitor and control ATIS parameters and background chatter to create the desired training scenario.
The ATIS page shows the current weather conditions for selected airports. These conditions consist of
wind, visibility, RVR, cloud type, weather condition, ceiling, temperature, and pressure. It also displays
the current airport, ATIS frequencies, approach type, and runway. The top of the page shows which
airports are currently tuned in and what the com and nav frequencies are. A direct entry button located
at the top left of the ATIS page is used to turn the ATIS on or off.
The ATIS message originates from existing training conditions. The instructor can modify training
conditions by using the Environment/Visual page. The time and information letter will be updated every
30 minutes or when there is a weather change.
Four overlay buttons are available at the bottom of the page. These are Approach Type, Chatter Rate,
Kill ATIS Station, and NOTAM Select. Each of these overlays is described in the following paragraphs.
The RESET direct entry button will ’un-kill’ any killed ATIS stations.
