SECTION 3 : OPERATION
3.1.
INTRODUCTION
Section 3 describes the operation of hardware devices used by an instructor during a training session at
the Instructor Station, and those within the instructor compartment.
The power up and power down procedures are written for the instructor to use during a training session.
Procedures that a simulator technician would follow to prepare the simulator for training are included in
the IOS Operation and Maintenance Manual.
3.2.
INITIAL CONDITIONS
Initial Conditions should be met before powering up after any type of power down.
1.) Walk Around Inspection is complete and the simulator is ready for training.
2.) Computers are powered on, running, and ready for instructor to set up a training session.
3.) Hydraulic system is operational and ready for training.
3.2.1.
Walk Around Inspection
The purpose of the Walk Around Inspection is to ensure that personnel are clear from the simulator area
and that the simulator is safe to operate. If any unsafe condition exists, report it to the site technician
before beginning a training session.
1.) Under the simulator and by the access ramp, inspect for leaks or drips coming from
beneath the cockpit, evidence of on-going maintenance, tools or test equipment, open or
unlatched panels, maintenance stands, or any other condition indicating that powering up the
simulator would be unwise or dangerous.
2.) In the simulator, check for evidence of on-going maintenance, tools or test equipment,
removed instruments or panels, or any other condition indicating that powering up the
simulator would be unwise or dangerous.
3.) Inspect the cockpit to ensure no one is using or performing maintenance on the simulator.
4.) In the instructor compartment, ensure that all keyboards, books, and other training gear
are stowed properly and that all doors are securely closed.
