3.1.2 WELDING TO NOZZLES
When suction and discharge piping is welded to nozzles on the pump case special precautions are
necessary to prevent foreign object damage to parts within the case. Temporary screens cannot be
installed in the suction or inlet piping of all welded joints. Hence, as an alternative, Flowserve
recommends:
1. removal of the internal assembly from the case;
2. welding of piping to nozzles on the case according to your practice;
3. circulation of commercial cleaning solution through the case and piping for several hours
after completion of welding and before reinstallation of the internal assembly, thus preventing
welding beads, pipe scale, and other foreign material from collecting in the case;
4. draining and thoroughly cleaning the case by flushing with water;
5. reinstallation of the internal assembly, only when the case is thoroughly clean.
3.1.3 AUXILIARY PIPING
When Flowserve supplies auxiliary piping, it is normally fitted to the pump before shipment,
complete with all necessary pressure gauges, flow indicators, valves, and fittings. Common
connections for hookup with the plant's piping are shown by the OUTLINE drawing in the back of
this manual.
When others supply and install auxiliary piping, Flowserve identifies sizes and locations of all
auxiliary pipe openings in the case on the OUTLINE drawing in the back of this manual.
3.2 INSTALLING BASEPLATES AND SOLEPLATES
NOTE
In the context of this subsection the term "driver" applies to
a motor, gear, steam turbine, fluid drive, clutch, and
hydraulic power recovery turbine (HPRT). The term
"turbine" is short for steam turbine, it does not apply to the
HPRT.
This section describes the work that must be performed to assure that baseplates and soleplates are
level. It also outlines the steps to be taken to assure alignment of multiple baseplates (or soleplates).
The OUTLINE drawing gives dimensions and any other references necessary for installation of
baseplates and/or soleplates.
3.2.1 TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
Besides hand tools, the tasks of leveling and aligning baseplates (or soleplates) require:
1. lifting equipment, including plastic-coated soft cables;
2. precision straight edge;
3. threaded leveling screws for leveling baseplate (if baseplate is so equipped) and/or small
metallic shim blocks, each approximately 1 in (25 mm) thick, one for each bolt hole in
baseplate or soleplates;
