Piping
4.6.1
Recommendations and notes for piping
connects
When installing suction and discharge piping, every
precaution must be taken to prevent pipe scale,
welding shot, or other foreign material in the pipe
from entering the pump. Neglect of these
precautions will result in damage to pump parts, and
damage to discharge, gate and check valves or
instruments located in the discharge or outlet piping.
When installing piping, Flowserve recommends:
1) That the inside of the pipe be thoroughly
cleaned;
2) That as the line is erected, a swab fitting the
entire cross section of the pipe be pulled through
each section to ensure the removal of scale or
other foreign material;
3) That before bolting or welding piping to the
pump, the complete piping is checked to ensure:
a) That the piping slopes in the correct
direction;
b) That no high spots or pockets are present in
which air or vapor can collect, as shown by
the
Figure 4-7
Vapor Pockets below;
c) That piping supports, valves, and fittings are
properly located, and all eccentric reducers
or increasers are properly installed
d) That the piping is installed to avoid
excessive loads on the pump nozzles from
poor alignment of piping or improper location
of piping anchors
