Locking mechanism:
■
The telescopic ladder is locked with two retaining pins on each rung, which auto-
matically lock into place when the ladder is extended in the correct position.
■
Every retaining pin has a locking lever that shows the locking condition.
■
If the locking levers drop at a 60-degree angle or the sliding locking levers are
located at the end of the rung, this means that the locking levers are locked in
place (fig. 4).
Obligatory use of crossbar on extension ladders
For extension ladders and ladders that can be used as such with a length of more than
3 m, the platform extension (crossbar) provided by the manufacturer must be installed.
Note (Fig. 11)
the ladder may fall over when attaching the crossbars. This may result
in personal injury and/or property damage. If necessary, have a second person help
you with the assembly.
Ladder inspection
Before using the ladder, all individual parts must be visually checked for fault-free
condition. If any damage is found, the ladder must not be used and the fault must
be repaired before the next use.
As well as a visual inspection on every work day and before every use of the ladder(s),
a regular inspection must be carried out and documented accordingly (see also
TRBS 2121-2, DGUV 208-016).
The ladder inspection must be performed by a qualified person in accordance with
the German Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health (BetrSichV). This person is to
be selected by the employer based on their qualifications, experience and profes-
sional activities and the necessary knowledge for the inspection of ladders.
The test period is to be regularly selected depending on the frequency of use,
the scope of application and the load on the ladder, and is determined on the basis
of a risk assessment by the employer.
FÖRCH recommends an annual inspection interval. The regular inspection of the ladder
is purely a visual inspection. This inspection must be documented. The date of the
next inspection must be marked on the ladder. If there is an accident involving
the ladder, the correct conduct of both the employer and the user is critical to the
bearing of the resulting costs. In order to provide evidence of this, it is important
that commercial users of the ladder are trained in its use and that this training is
documented in writing.
Repairs to ladders
Repair and maintenance work on the ladder must be performed by a qualified person.
If in doubt, the ladder should be repaired by the manufacturer. In principle, all the
attachment parts of a ladder can be repaired or replaced. Rungs or steps cannot be
replaced, meaning that the basic load-bearing structure is not repairable,
only replaceable as a whole. If a rung or step is damaged, the ladder can be trimmed
accordingly and continue to be used. In case of any questions about the purchase
of spare parts, please contact your FÖRCH representative.
