SSL and IPsec VPN
Virtual private networks (VPNs) extend a private network across a public network,
typically the Internet. Two types of VPN can be con
fi
gured with FortiGate unit: SSL
VPN and IPsec VPN.
SSL VPN con
fi
guration requires an SSL VPN web portal for users to log into, a
user authentication con
fi
guration for SSL VPN users, and the creation of SSL VPN
security policies that control the source and destination access of SSL VPN users.
IPsec supports a similar client server architecture as SSL VPN. However, to support
a client server architecture, IPsec users must install and con
fi
gure an IPsec VPN
client (such as FortiClient) on their PCs or mobile devices.
