Mounting Procedure
1. Disconnect all electrical power sources.
2. Install the Fhoton™ Drive to a secure post. Optional pole mounting brackets are available (see Mounting Bracket Installation Guide
for details). The bracket allows mounting to metal poles ranging from 2" to 8" (5.08 cm to 20.32 cm) and including 4"x4" (10.16
cm x 10.16 cm) wooden posts.
Wiring Connections
General (All WIring Connections)
1. Verify that the power has been shut off.
2. Remove the Fhoton™ Drive lid.
3. To maintain the UL Type 4 rating for the drive enclosure, the gland plate (conduit plate) openings must be closed with
appropriate strain relief or conduit connectors. Listed Type B liquid-tight fittings rated for Type 4 are required for proper
protection. All fittings must be provided in accordance with the National Electrical Code and all applicable state and local
electrical codes.
4. Make the appropriate wiring connections following the instructions below, and install in accordance with the National Electrical
Code and all applicable local electrical codes.
a. Select wire gauge based on code requirements for the maximum operating currents listed in Table 7, page 23.
b. Verify that all required protection devices, such as Listed fuses or circuit breakers, are appropriately sized and installed in
accordance with the National Electrical Code and all applicable local electrical codes.
5. Replace the cover. Do not over-tighten the screws.
a. Torque screws to 6 in-lbs. (0.68 Nm).
NOTE: Ensure that the system is properly grounded. Improper grounding may result in the loss of voltage surge protection and
interference filtering.
WARNING
Serious or fatal electrical shock may result from failure to connect the ground terminal to the motor, the Fhoton™ Drive, metal
plumbing and all other metal near the motor, or cable to a proper earth ground in accordance with local codes, using wire no
smaller than motor cable wires. To minimize risk of electrical shock, disconnect power before working on or around the Fhoton™
Drive system. Do not use motor in swimming areas.
CAPACITORS INSIDE THE FHOTON™ DRIVE CAN STILL HOLD LETHAL VOLTAGE EVEN AFTER POWER HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED. ALLOW FIVE
MINUTES FOR DANGEROUS INTERNAL VOLTAGE TO DISCHARGE BEFORE REMOVING FHOTON™ DRIVE COVER.
The Fhoton™ Drive is not protected against a “bolted” short to ground at the motor cable terminals. Ensure that the motor leads
have been checked for a possible short to ground BEFORE operating the drive.
