Using the Idiom Search
Screen
Finding Idioms in the
Oxford Thesaurus
of English
is a little bit diff erent than
in the
Oxford Advanced Learner’s
Dictionary
. Instead of typing a word and
searching for all idioms that contain
that word, you are presented with a
word list as you type a word.
1. From the word search screen,
press
.
The idiom entry screen is displayed.
Press
to return to the word
entry screen.
2. Type a word, for example
hard
.
As you type letters, the fi rst idiom
in the book that matches the letters
you type will move to the top of the
list. You may not have to type the
entire idiom in order to fi nd the one
you want. In this example, idioms
beginning with the word “hard”
appear on the screen after you type
“har”.
3. Press or to move the highlight
to the idiom you want to view and
then press ENTER to select it.
The entry is displayed that contains
the idiom you selected.
4. Use the navigation button to read
the entire entry.
Press
to hear the word using
British English.
5. Press CLEAR when done.
