18.

When clearing timber on a slope, do not permit anyone to stand downhill of the log
attached to the cable.

19.

When felling standing trees, the traction cable must be secured to the tree before the
felling starts. In this connection, the tractor’s position must be selected so that the
distance to the tree being felled is at least twice the length of the tree

– using a

remote roller with redirected pulling action at least the l

ength of the tree’s height –

see

Fig. 3

.

Do not stand within the hazardous angle when using a remote roller!

20.

The tyre tread patterns of the tractor on which the winch is mounted must be non-slip,
i.e. lug profiles with at least 40% of the profile height for new tyres, or the vehicle must
be equipped with chains for anti-slip protection. In slippery conditions due to snow
and ice, chains must also be used for anti-slip protection.

21.

Before skidding, the tractor must be securely positioned using slope stabilisers and
similar. If necessary, secure the tractor using a cable secured in the opposite direction
to the pulling direction if the slope stabiliser cannot achieve sufficient traction due to
the nature of the terrain/ground.

22.

Select the load and pulling speed to ensure that the tractor, in respect of its model
and design as well as the inclination of the terrain and the soil quality, cannot tip over
and can still be operated and braked.
