Frye Electronics FONIX COLT Audiometer
1
Chapter 1: Introduction
1.1 Description
The Colt Audiometer is a clinical audiometer that is controlled with the touch-based interface
of an Android tablet. It includes air, bone, and speech audiometry as standard features. The
user interface is intuitive and elegant, allowing the operator to move between pure-tone and
speech testing with a simple touch.
Each Colt Audiometer is supplied with a monitor headset/boom microphone combination
that allows the clinician to monitor the signals the patient is hearing. When the talkback
microphone accessory is used, the clinician can also hear responses from a patient tested in a
sound booth.
Accessories for the Colt include sound field speakers, a talkback microphone, a patient
response switch, and a soft carrying case. Please see Sections 1.7 and 1.8 for a list of available
accessories.
An of 2015, an option is available to add tactile controls over stimulus frequency, level and
presentation without having to look at the tablet, thus allowing continued observation of
the tested patient. The controls consist of knobs for adjustment of level and push buttons for
stimulus presentation. The single center knob is used to control frequency. It should be noted
that all touch screen functions continue to be active as well as the mechanical controls when
the tactile option is present.
A dual speech talk forward microphone option has also been made available. The audiometer
circuits have been upgraded to allow an easy installation. See section 2.1, sub section 9 for
installation and use details.
Note: A technical description, maintenance, specifications and calibration information for
the Colt audiometer can be found in the Colt Maintenance Manual. The Colt Maintenance
Manual is available for download in the Manual section of the Frye website, www.frye.com.
Hard copies are also available from Frye Electronics.
Android tablet note:
This manual is written with descriptions of operation for a particular type of Android tablet.
These tablets, like computers, are not made by Frye Electronics, Inc., and may differ slightly,
one from another. The operation of the tablet supplied with the individual Colt audiometer
may thus be different from that described in this manual. All tablets provided with Colt
audiometers are tested for proper operation. If an operation problem occurs, please do not
hesitate to write or call the factory (See section 1.4 below).
1.2 Intended Use
The Colt clinical audiometer is intended to test hearing by hearing aid dispensers, audiology
clinics, and schools.
