6 Changing the Machine Settings
Starting use and changing settings of the data encryption function
The machine must be restarted when the data encryption is set or unlocked and the encryption key is changed. The
corresponding storage area (storage (optional)) is initialized when the machine restarts. In such a case, the data
from before the switchover is not guaranteed.
Important
Always save necessary settings and documents before starting use or changing the settings of the data encryption
function.
An error occurs if any currently connected storage (optional) does not match the encryption settings. For more
information about error messages and measures, refer to "Error Code" (P.228).
[Encryption Key for Confidential Data]
Configure the encryption key to encrypt the machine administrator password and other confidential information.
Encrypting confidential information prevents network snooping and browsing of confidential information by non-
owners.
Important
If the encryption key is changed, it may be no longer possible to restore backed-up confidential information.
[Service Rep. Restricted Operation]
Configure whether to restrict operations of customer engineers so that the security settings of this machine cannot
be changed by impersonation of a customer engineer.
Customer engineers can no longer change the following items.
"[Encryption Key for Confidential Data]" (P.114)
"[Service Rep. Restricted Operation]" (P.114)
"[Administrator Settings]" (P.137)
"[Invalid Login Settings]" (P.140)
Creating or changing users with machine administration privileges
Changing SNMP V3 settings
If a maintenance password is configured, it must be entered for a customer engineer to perform maintenance on
this machine.
Important
Be aware of the following points when [Service Rep. Restricted Operation] is configured.
- If the administrator user ID and password are forgotten, it is no longer possible to change the items restricted for
customer engineers.
- If the maintenance password is forgotten, customer engineers can no longer perform maintenance when trouble has
occurred with the machine.
The electronic board must be replaced to change restricted items and perform maintenance. Take care to remember the
machine administrator user ID and password and maintenance password, because replacement of the electronic board
incurs a charge and interchange fee.

For more information about machine administration privileges, refer to "About management authorizations and
Authorization Groups" (P.157).
[Software Download]
Set whether or not to permit firmware downloads.
