Removing and replacing the Switch Module
Complete the following steps to remove and replace a failed Brocade 6545 16 Gbps FC Switch
Module.
NOTE
Before beginning this procedure, ensure that you have a replacement Brocade 6545 16 Gbps FC
Switch Module or filler blade available because you do not want to leave the slot on the Fujitsu
PRIMERGY BX900 S2 OR BX400 Blade Server open for an extended period of time. The slot must
be filled with either a replacement Brocade 6545 16 Gbps FC Switch Module or a filler blade to
maintain proper airflow.
1. Back up the Brocade 6545 16 Gbps FC Switch Module configuration to an FTP server by using
the configUpload command and then following the prompts.
This command uploads the Switch Module configuration to the server, making it available for
downloading to a replacement Switch Module if necessary. It is recommended that you back
up the configuration on a regular basis to ensure that a complete configuration is available for
downloading to a replacement Switch Module.
2. Stop all activity requiring the ports used by the Switch Module.
For details about port management, refer to the
Operating Manual
that comes with your
Fujitsu PRIMERGY BX900 S2 or BX400 Blade Server. Verify there is no activity by viewing the
Switch Module LEDs. For details about LED activity on the Switch Module, refer to
“Interpreting
LED activity”
on page 38.
3. Disconnect all cables from the SFP+ optical transceivers. For more information, refer to
“Removing and replacing an SFP+ optical transceiver”
.
4. Remove the SFP+ optical transceivers from the Switch Module external ports.
