CHAPTER 3 Main Unit Power-on/off

Power-off
This section describes how to turn off the main unit.
You can power off the main unit either manually or automatically.

Manual Power-off
You can manually power off the main unit using either (a) the operator panel or (b) the
SMC.
a) Power-off using the operator panel

Set the mode switch to UNLOCK or MAINTENANCE.
If the mode switch is set to LOCK, the power-off function by the power switch is
disabled.

Press the power switch on the operator panel of the main unit.
The message “POWER OFF OK?” is displayed on the state indication LCD.

Make sure that the message is displayed, and press the power switch again
within 5 seconds.
The shutdown process will begin. Wait until the shutdown process finishes, it may
take a few minutes. The message “POWER OFF...” is displayed on the panel while
the main unit is shutting down and after the shutdown of the partitions is completed.

After the power-off process is complete, the message “POWER ON READY”
appears. Check this message and turn off the peripheral power switches.
For information on the power-off conditions restricted by the state of the Mode switch
Data destruction
Before shutting down power, ensure that the following events occur; otherwise data
may be destroyed.

All applications have finished processing.
l
No user is using the components.
l
When the main unit is turned off, the message “Power On Ready” appears on the
operator panel. Before shutting down the main power (to UPS, power cable, and
power distribution box), be sure this message is displayed.
If necessary, back up files before shutting down.
