Switching the Server System ON/OFF

CAUTION!
If, after switching ON the server, you can only see flickering stripes on the
connected monitor, switch the system OFF immediately (see chapter
“Troubleshooting and Tips” on page 133).
The system ON/OFF power button does not disconnect the system from
the mains voltage. To completely disconnect it, remove the power plugs
from the sockets.
Switching ON the System (system is powered OFF)

Press the system power ON/OFF button (position 1 on figure 15 on page 42)
for 2 seconds.

If necessary, switch ON the needed server blades (see “Switching ON/OFF
the Server Blades” on page 45).
The system is switched ON and the switched ON server blades perform a
system test and boot the operating system.
Switching OFF the System (system is powered ON)
The system is operating (server blades are also switched ON).
Ê
For gracefully shut down the server blades press the system power
ON/OFF button (position 1 on figure 15 on page 42) for 4 seconds. Subse-
quently, the system will be powered OFF.

For hard shut down the system press the system power ON/OFF button
(position 1 on figure 15 on page 42) for 10 seconds. The system will be
powered OFF immediately.
Other Ways to Switch ON the System

After power failure
The system automatically switches ON following a power failure.

From remote via the management blade telnet or web interface.
