Configuring the server
When starting up a PRIMERGY CX122 S1 server node for the first time, there
are several installation options, depending on the system configuration:
–
Hard disk drives installed - Preboot Execution Environment (PXE) boot
(recommended)
PXE boot requires your machine's BIOS to make a request of a TFTP server
for a bootable image (the equivalent of inserting a CD and booting). It is the
environment that allows devices to boot up via their network interface.
When shipping, the boot sequence of each PRIMERGY CX122 S1 server
has been configured to network booting. Right after the power on self test
process (POST), the system will execute the PXE bootstrap session, looking
for DHCP servers from the network. After selecting the required PXE boot
server, the bootstrapping process begins and the PXE firmware asks for the
exact path of the NBP (Network Bootstrap Program). After receiving this
path, the download process begins. This is done via the Trivial File Transfer
Protocol (TFTP, UDP, port 69).
Ê
Dedicate one server from your network to be a PXE server with the
DHCP and TFTP services configured and running.
Ê
Press the On/Off button (item 5 in figure
10 on page 41
).
The PXE server will reply to your server’s PXE boot request and aid the
client system during its bootstrap session.
Ê
Follow the on-screen instructions.
